Westman Regional Soccer Association (WRSA) is seeking an Executive/Technical Director to coordinate and run soccer programming within the Western Manitoba communities it oversees (Brandon, Rivers, Minnedosa, Southwest, Westman Football Club, and Brandon United Football Cooperative). This senior position for WRSA is responsible for the technical investment in its player base, with emphasis on youth player development. Core to the role is the creation and implementation of the organization's Technical Strategic Plan that will outline the organization's commitment to the development of its players, coaches and programs. The Technical Director will also be a liaison to Manitoba Soccer Association (MSA), and Brandon University and Assiniboine College soccer programs. Coach development courses with MSA will be a responsibility of this position. Reporting to the Board of Directors, this position also manages the Organization's administration and budget.

 

WRSA Executive/Technical Director Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Executive Leadership

  • Assist in the development and implementation of the yearly Strategic Plan
  • Directly promote and manage education and development opportunities to the organization’s coaches
  • Act as the chief spokesperson for the organization on technical development matters, including external liaisons with governing bodies
  • Liaison with councils and schools for Facility bookings
  • Coordination of festivals and tournaments
  • Explore opportunities for growth of WRSA programs including develop futsal for all community groups including schools
  • Develop and promote yearlong programming (soccer and futsal)

 

Technical Leadership

  • Assist in the development and implementation of the yearly strategic plan in the organization’s technical pillar.
  • Recruit, develop and directly manage the performance of coaches, coaching staff and volunteers on technical matters of the organization.
  • Align organization’s programs to the governing body to provide a clearly defined player pathway to all streams of soccer
  • Coordination, facilitation, and delivery of WRSA JDP Grassroots or other programming
  • Work with Westman FC and special competition teams in session planning and assessing players
  • Establish partnerships with universities, colleges and other organizations to drive the progression of the organization's top soccer talent to a higher level
  • Work with local schools to develop soccer and promote the Organization’s Technical Program Development
  • Drive the long-term player development (LTPD) principles to the club's player youth, including an advanced training component
  • Establish structured, program-wide skills testing and other program quality management initiatives
  • Establish and run annual winter and summer programs

 

Reporting 

  • Provide the Board of Directors with monthly technical and project reports
  • Oversee player skills testing and the collection of other technical data needed for evaluation of technical programs within WRSA

  

Administrative Tasks in conjunction with Admin Staff

  • Annual reporting of past and future programs for WRSA AGM's
  • Coordinating with community stream soccer programs for season registrations
  • Responding directly to individuals having difficulty registering
  • WRSA Programming Reports and Revenue Tracking
  • Assist with application for grants (to hire summer students for example)
  • Managing summer student tasks and hours
  • Assist in scheduling league games, festivals, tournaments, and summer camps

 

Oversee Social Media

  • Developing promotional materials
  • Monitoring email accounts (info, registration, finance)
  • Posting/communicating reminders for submission deadlines

 

Competencies & Skills Required:

  • Completion of Stages 1 to 3 of the Community Coach Stream as set out by the Manitoba Soccer Association, the commitment to obtain the Provincial C License certification, and further coaching development opportunities such as National Certification
  • Experience using strategic planning and effective operational practices to support program growth, increase participation, and strengthen overall delivery
  • Knowledge of and support for the Canadian Soccer Association's Long Term Player Development (LTPD) model
  • An understanding of the CSA's youth soccer competition structure, which is provided through the three steams (Recreational, competitive, performance)
  • Knowledge of elite player development systems and how they differ and integrate with community sport programs
  • Ability to create long term technical development programs for players in LTPD Stage 4: Training to Train, and Stage 5: Training to Compete
  • Experience with coaching both male and female soccer
  • Strong communication skills and an ability to convey technical planning to stakeholders, including parents and players
  • Team player with an ability to operate as part of an integrated multi-functional management team
  • Ability to prioritize a variety of tasks and work independently with minimal supervision to meet time sensitive deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Proficient skills and experience in Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive and Outlook)
  • Ability to travel and flexible work hours
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license
  • Clean Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry checks
